ArmInfo.Azerbaijan proposed Armenia tp jointly appeal to the OSCE to abolish the OSCE Minsk Group, which carried out a mediation mission in the settlement of the Karabakh issue. As TASS reports, this was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, receiving the speakers of the parliaments of the member countries of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA).
"We have already proposed to the Armenian side that Azerbaijan and Armenia jointly appeal to the OSCE to abolish the Minsk Group. There is no need for it anymore, it is not functioning now. We will not allow it to function de facto. As for [its] de jure [status], legally it should be abolished, and this will show how sincere Armenia is," he said.
According to the Azerbaijani president, if Armenia prefers to preserve the Minsk Group, it will be equivalent to territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
He stressed that for 28 years the Minsk Group has been trying to freeze the Karabakh issue. At the same time, Aliyev noted that signing a peace agreement with Armenia is impossible until amendments are made to the Constitution of the state. According to him, when Azerbaijan raises this issue, this does not mean that Baku is interfering in the internal affairs of Armenia.
Notably, the OSCE Minsk Group, headed by the three co-chairs - Russia, the United States and France - was established in 1992 to resolve the Karabakh conflict.
