ArmInfo. The preventive measure against the assistant of the Armenian parliament member from the opposition faction "Hayastan" (Armenia) Levon Kocharyan - Artur Sukoyan has been changed.
As reported by his lawyer Erik Aleksanyan, the preventive measure has been changed to house arrest.
On May 2, the Investigative Committee of Armenia petitioned for Sukoyan's arrest for two months. The court granted this petition. According to the Investigative Committee, "on April 30, Sukoyan approached Civi?.am correspondent David Levonyan in the courtyard of the parliament, got into an argument with him and hit him in the face, while threatening the journalist, demanding that he not distribute unwanted videos." After the incident, the journalist submitted a report on the crime. According to him, the conflict was caused by a video published by the journalist and related to primate of the Tavush Diocese, Archbishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church Bagrat Galstyan. The pro-government journalist, in particular, called Galstyan a "KGB" agent who "receives money from the Kremlin." Touching on this incident, Sukoyan himself stated that Levonyan has recently distinguished himself with his "mission" to discredit the church, which is unacceptable for him. "I tried to explain the same thing to him when I accidentally saw him in the courtyard of the National Assembly. I approached him and said that attacks on churches are unacceptable to me as an Armenian and as a Christian. I told him that it is immoral," he said. According to Sukoyan, David Levonyan insulted him in response and received a blow. "I hit him once, he fell to the ground. He stood up and started shouting something, but I did not give in to these provocations. I did not want to hit him, but when people cross the red line, it is very painful for me. It is sad that today the Armenian Apostolic Church is attacked in Armenia and by Armenians. This young man did not fully understand what my anger was about," concluded Levon Kocharyan's assistant. It is noteworthy that law enforcement agencies do not act so quickly in cases of violence against opposition journalists by pro-government officials.
