ArmInfo.Opposition Armenian MP Tigran Abrahamyan expressed doubts about the possibility of mirror changes in the constitutions of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The parliamentarian on his Facebook page recalled the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan that both Yerevan and Baku have mutual claims to the provisions of the constitutions of the two countries, which interfere with the establishment of long-term peace. On the one hand, as Abrahamyan noted, Mirzoyan confirmed the long-circulating belief in the political field that the government wants to change the Constitution of Armenia at the request of Azerbaijan, but at the same time he put forward an approach according to which Yerevan has similar demands on Azerbaijan. Baku's reaction was not long in coming, and the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, commenting on this statement, noted that the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia contains territorial claims to neighboring states, including Azerbaijan. The Constitution of Azerbaijan and other legislative acts do not contain any territorial claims, therefore, in the opinion of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, attempts to draw parallels in this issue are unacceptable.
"What do we have? On the one hand, the explanation of the RA government, in which our citizens have no confidence, on the other hand, the reaction of a hostile country to the fact that the statement of an RA official is not true. The fact that the RA government confirms the demand of Azerbaijan and its intention to change the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia is already a fact, but whether Azerbaijan will go for mirror constitutional changes, in this regard, the real process is not noticeable," the oppositionist noted
