ArmInfo. The main task that Hungary will work on as the country presiding over the Council of the European Union will be to support the initiatives in matters of peace and cooperation between states. Hungarian Foreign and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto stated at a press conference in Baku on June 5.
" Hungary, which will hold the presidency of the European Union Council, has three priorities. We want to expand the European Union to the Balkan region. Three states have been waiting for membership in this organization for years. Another priority is the fight against illegal migration. The decision on who to allow to enter Hungary can only be made by the Hungarian government. Neither Berlin nor Brussels can do so. This requires a well-thought-out approach," Szijjarto noted.
He also touched upon the issue of assistance to Armenia from the European Peace Facility in the amount of 10 million dollars. "We believe that the same assistance should be provided to Azerbaijan," the minister said, APA reports.
Earlier, it became known that Hungary is blocking the project of support for Armenia from the EU Peace Facility, around which a preliminary agreement was reached in the alliance. Hungary demands that assistance be provided to Azerbaijan as well.
