On May 30, the first meeting of the republican commission to assess the damage caused to individuals and legal entities as a result of emergency situations in Lori and Tavush regions was held at the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the meeting was chaired by the deputy chairman of the commission, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Arpine Sargsyan.
In her speech, Arpine Sargsyan noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has sent requests to activate the EU civil defense mechanism and receive support from the UN office in order to strengthen expert capabilities for a more accurate assessment and elimination of the consequences of the disaster. Territorial and regional commissions have already been established in 9 communities of 2 regions. They will conduct an on-site assessment of the damage caused and draw up appropriate reports that will be submitted to the commission.
The meeting participants discussed the current situation and pointed out problems. In particular, it was noted that there is a need to focus on creating a common assessment format that will help ensure uniform approaches and information collection across all communities. Particular attention was paid to issues related to compensation for damage and its methodology. In terms of determining the general format, it was also decided to involve expert potential in order to build the process on a reliable information base with the support of international partners.
Damage caused to the state and population, including historical and cultural values, as a result of emergency situations in Lori and Tavush regions will be considered separately.
On May 26, heavy rains hit the north of Armenia, which led to the overflow of the banks of the Debed and Aghstev rivers and flooding in the Lori and Tavush regions. Many roads and bridges were destroyed, houses were flooded. The flood destroyed roads and bridges. There are many problems in terms of infrastructures. In particular, we are talking about communications, power lines, gas pipelines, systems related to drinking water and irrigation. To eliminate the consequences of the disaster, an operational group was formed chaired by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia Gnel Sanosyan.
