ArmInfo. Armenia has introduced a temporary ban on the export of whitefish juveniles. The decision on this was made at a meeting of the RA government on May 30.
As noted in the rationale for the draft decision, this measure is aimed at ensuring the sustainable use of living resources and preserving the biodiversity of Lake Sevan. In recent years, there has been an increase in whitefish stocks in Lake Sevan (2668 tons in 2019, 2345 tons in 2020, 5348 tons in 2021, 4700 tons in 2022), which allows for a small amount of industrial fishing in ( 300 tons in 2020, 300 tons in 2021 , 600 tons in 2022 , 600 tons in 2023). However, the trend of increasing whitefish stocks in recent years still does not ensure normal growth and the optimal number of fish species in the lake.
By decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, it is proposed to introduce a six-month ban on the export of whitefish juveniles belonging to the salmon species from the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
