ArmInfo. The former head of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, David Ananyan, believes that it is at this stage that the outcome of the confrontation between the current government and the popular movement opposing unilateral concessions is being decided.
"The Tavush movement led by Bagrat Srbazan, which is already characterized as a sacred struggle against the agenda of a change of power, still continues to manifest itself in the political arena, despite a significant level of pessimism in the public consciousness," Ananyan noted on the social network.
He said the movement remains a shining example of civic engagement, and despite skepticism about the movement's potential, it continues to engage in acts of peaceful defiance that underscore the continued determination and perseverance of its members.
"At this decisive moment in history, each person has a choice - either to actively support this movement, investing their strength and convictions in the general aspirations of the movement, or to remain on the sidelines, thereby contributing to the formation of pessimistic public opinion.
Lack of activism and public support can have the undesirable consequence of reinforcing the status quo, which in turn will strengthen the position of the current government and slow down the process of necessary political and social change.
It is very important that the movement led by Bagrat Srbazan not only continues to be an important element of the political chessboard, but also intensifies, becoming truly popular, since this movement generates public discussion about possible ways of development of the state and attempts to mobilize civic activity in an effort to influence the course internal political processes," concluded David Ananyan.
Protests in Armenia began after it became known about the agreement reached on April 19 between Yerevan and Baku to begin delimiting the border with Tavush. On May 9, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who led the procession from Tavush to Yerevan, saying that Prime Minister Pashinyan had failed to govern the state along all lines, called on the Prime Minister to resign.
On May 26, Galstanyan was announced as a candidate for prime minister of the Republic of Armenia. From 8:00 on May 27, peaceful actions of disobedience began, which, according to the leaders of the movement, should force the authorities to take into account the will of the people and leave.
