ArmInfo. Russia is counting on Azerbaijan's support in preparations for the opening of the Russian Consulate General in Stepanakert, which will begin in the near future. This was stated by the head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Grigory Karasin, at a meeting with a delegation of the Azerbaijani Parliament led by Chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Samad Seyidov.
"We plan to begin preparatory work for this in the near future and count on your support," said the Russian senator.
According to him, it would be great to open this general consulate in 2024.
"This will allow us to eliminate the disparity in mutual consular presence," Karasin added, TASS reports.
Touching on Ukrainian issues, the Russian senator noted that possible decision by Azerbaijan to send humanitarian aid in Donbass is important for Russian public opinion.
Artsakh was completely occupied and de-Armenized in September last year, after the Azerbaijani aggression on September 19-20. The entire indigenous Armenian population was forced to flee from their homes.
