ArmInfo.Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova responded to the situation in Armenia due to flooding in the north of the country. Zakharova's commentary notes that on May 25-26, a month's worth of precipitation fell in the northern regions of Armenia. "There are reports of casualties, missing persons and severe property damage."
A number of settlements, transport and energy infrastructure facilities found themselves in the flood zone. Rail and road connections to the affected areas have been disrupted. We sincerely sympathize with the fraternal Armenian people in connection with the natural disaster that befell the republic, we wish a speedy recovery to the victims," she noted.
At the same time, Zakharova emphasized that on May 26, the Russian-Armenian Center for Humanitarian Response (RACHR) transferred portable motor pumps used in search and rescue and emergency recovery work to the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia. "In Lori and Tavush regions, there are 50 pieces of equipment previously provided by RACGR, which are involved in eliminating the consequences of the flood. The leadership of the RACGR is in constant contact with the National Center for Crisis Management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, as well as with the headquarters for the rapid elimination of the consequences of floods in Lori and Tavush regions.
If necessary, the Center is ready to attract additional forces and resources, as well as provide humanitarian assistance to the affected population. The Russian Embassy in Yerevan and the Consulate General in Gyumri are in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, the leadership of Lori, Tavush and Shirak regions with a view to possible provision of additional assistance and identification of citizens of the Russian Federation among the victims," the Russian diplomat concluded. Let us note that according to official data, as a result of floods in Armenia, 3 people were killed and 2 were injured.
