ArmInfo.On May 21, RA Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan received a delegation led by U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Brandon Yoder.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, welcoming the guests, the minister highly appreciated the close bilateral cooperation and thanked the US Embassy for providing constant support since the beginning of the ongoing reforms in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Vahe Ghazaryan highlighted Armenia's joining the global coalition to combat the threats of synthetic drugs as one of the important initiatives and expressed hope that this will contribute to the continuation and expansion of effective cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking. Among the areas of the cooperation agenda, the minister highlighted the formation of the Patrol and Water Patrol Services, the fight against crime, including the fight against drug trafficking and cybercrime.
The Minister of the Interior expressed special gratitude for the support provided to the Rescue Service within the framework of the program implemented by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) of United States Department of Defense (DoD), as well as for training courses for employees.
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, Brandon Yoder, pointing to effective cooperation, noted that the achievements within the framework of industry reforms are exceptional. On behalf of the US government, he expressed his readiness to continue active cooperation and expand the agenda.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan presented the reforms and work done by the ministry, mentioning planned work that covers both the police and rescue sectors.
At the meeting, the parties discussed issues of mutual interest and outlined further actions. In particular, a new program aimed at effective human resource management with the United States will be launched in the near future, and the possibility of a new separate program in the field of education is also being considered. Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan expressed special gratitude Alexis Haftvani, Director of the U.S. Embassy Yerevan's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL), who is completing his mission in Armenia. Alexis Haftvani was awarded the medal "For Cooperation" for supporting the implementation of the patrol service, as well as for close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
