ArmInfo. The leader of the "Kamk" ("Will") initiative Vahagn Chakhalyan, accused of committing hooliganism using information or communication technologies, was sent under house arrest by a court decision.
According to the Investigative Committee, in 2024, on May 16, during a protest rally held near the RA government building, the founder of the Kamk initiative V.Ch. and 4 more people were detained on suspicion of hooliganism.
The preliminary investigation revealed that V.Ch. On May 16, at about 12:25, showing disrespect for society, legal and moral norms, open disregard for the rules of coexistence, knowing that his illegal and immoral actions were covered online, he committed hooliganism.
"In particular, at the intersection of Melik Adamyan-Tigran Mets streets in Yerevan, in front of the utility entrance of building No. 1 of the RA government, in the presence of police officers of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, many citizens and journalists, he entered into an argument with a citizen, during which he loudly pronounced the latter addressed obscene expressions that humiliated the honor and dignity of a person, and therefore was detained by police officers serving in the area," the message says.
V.Ch. was charged under Part 2 of Article 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia for committing the above acts. He was sentenced to house arrest for a period of 2 months.
The remaining four people detained during the incident were released from custody. The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, at the government building, Vahagn Chakhalyan called on citizens not to be afraid in defending the territorial integrity of Armenia and to join their protest movement. At the same time, he emphasized that if tomorrow the Armenian people join them on Republic Square, then tomorrow it will be possible to overthrow this government. According to Chakhalyan, the fragmentation of the people even in the struggle for statehood is explained by the fact that people have lost faith and no longer want to trust anyone.
