ArmInfo. While Yerevan was content with formal documents, Baku actively worked to ensure that Armenia's allies supported Azerbaijan, and at least took a neutral position. This is how political scientist Sergei Melkonyan commented on the visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to Baku and what was done during the visit.
The political scientist notes that at his meeting with Aliyev, Lukashenko recalled how they discussed the upcoming war of 2020 and came to the conclusion that it can be won and the victory must be maintained. "And this is stated by Armenia's formal ally in the CSTO and the EAEU," the political scientist noted.
He then cited the full text of the Lukashenko's statement: "Ilham Heydarovich, thank you very much. We really do not have closed topics. Everything is open with us. Even if someone heard what issues we are discussing, they would think: what kind of relationship do we have?" The kindest, the closest. We communicate like brothers, we understand the world in the same way, we understand where it is moving. You know, I told you during a one-on-one meeting about Heydar Aliyev: if he saw how Azerbaijan is developing. I thought again our conversation before the war, before your war of 'liberation', when we were talking philosophically at dinner. Then we came to the conclusion that it is possible to win the war. It is very important to maintain this victory. But, thirdly, we agreed. You then touched upon this issue, that after the war the most difficult time will begin, when it will be necessary to revive the lands that you 'liberated', to begin the revival. And just that difficult time has come when it is necessary to revive these lands. You won, you maintained the victory. Now you need to revive it..."
The political scientist is confident that this statement by Lukashenko clearly demonstrates the outcome and results of the work of Armenian and Azerbaijani diplomacy.
"While Yerevan was content with formal documents, Baku was actively working to ensure that Armenia's allies supported Azerbaijan, and at least took a neutral position.
D Does this mean we should escalate relations? Of course not. Armenia will definitely not benefit from anyone's negative attitude. This applies not only to Belarus. Today, Armenia is not in a position to multiply enemies when there are two "neighbors" who are waiting for the right moment to attack," the expert concluded.
