ArmInfo. The Investigative Committee of Armenia initiated a criminal case on the fact of the actions of the police in Kirantsi. This was stated by the coordinator of the "Hayakwe" initiative, Avetik Chalabyan, on May 16 during a conversation with journalists. He said that a criminal case was initiated under 2 articles - abuse of official power and obstruction of the activities of the media.
"We will be consistent in ensuring that all police officials are held accountable for their actions. But I assume they will state that the instructions were received from the top leadership," he said.
Residents of the border villages of Tavush have been holding protests on the Armenia-Georgia interstate road on the Kirants-Voskepar section since April 19. They opposed and continue to oppose the border delimitation option agreed upon by Yerevan and Baku, as a result of which strategic heights will pass to Azerbaijan and Armenian villages will be completely or partially surrounded by the Azerbaijani side. In addition, actions of disobedience broke out throughout the country demanding an end to unilateral concessions to the enemy.
During peaceful protests, law enforcement officers obstructed the work of the media representatives and used disproportionate force to detain citizens, as evidenced by video footage distributed online.
