The Russian Embassy in Armenia hosted a gala reception on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin addressed the assembled guests with a welcoming speech, expressing gratitude to everyone who came to the embassy to share a common holiday with them.
"Victory Day, by the way, is emphasized in the greeting messages of our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to the leaders of friendly states - this is, first of all, of course, a day of remembrance and tribute to those who, with their unparalleled feat, their unparalleled efforts and sacrifices, brought to the whole world, victory over terrible evil for all humanity, thereby creating the basis, both in international relations and in everyday life, the opportunity for free peaceful development and in general for the continuation of life on our land, no matter how anyone evaluates the results of the war now, unfortunately, on this score, different opinions appear. We see attempts to rewrite the history of the war, someone is trying to forget its lessons, but, nevertheless, the fact is undeniable that the victory came at a very high price, that the greatest contribution to this victory and the greatest sacrifices for it. achievements were brought by the peoples of the Soviet Union," the Russian diplomat noted.
At the same time, he added that celebrating this holiday in the Republic of Armenia is especially pleasant for him, especially significant given the fact that the history of relations between the two peoples, its characteristic feature, is the history of military brotherhood.
"Armenia, like other peoples of the Soviet Union, the Armenian people made an invaluable contribution to our common victory and made great sacrifices on its altar.
It is no coincidence, in my opinion, that this may be such a detail, but it is very indicative of one of these characteristic, well, one of the characteristic illustrations of the victory of what we associate with Victory, this is the "Kochari" dance by the soldiers of the Taman Division at the walls of the Reichstag in Berlin. This says a lot, and, of course, we remember and appreciate and honor the role played by all the peoples of the Soviet Union, all the peoples of the anti-Hitler coalition in achieving this very important victory. We are obliged to remember this also because we have no right to forget out of respect for our ancestors, out of respect for those who are here with us today and who made a personal contribution to this victory. Thank you very much for being here. We value every minute of communication with you, because time passes, your example, and you yourself are a source of a very important source of courage and spirituality for us, and I even said a source, probably, of conscience.
On the other hand, it is quite obvious that the lessons of history must not be forgotten, because those who forget them are doomed to repeat the mistakes and tragedies of the past. As our outstanding Russian historian Klyuchevsky said, history is not a teacher, but a stern taskmaster who harshly punishes unlearned lessons. Today I want to congratulate all of us on this great victory, congratulate us on the fact that we do not forget about this victory, that we are passing the baton of memory to our younger generation, this is a very important guarantee that the lessons of that war will not be in vain today, this is especially important," Kopyrkin concluded.
The reception was attended by government officials, deputies, diplomats of foreign diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations, NGOs, cultural figures and the media.
