ArmInfo.Armenia is committed to the peace agenda with Azerbaijan and is involved in the negotiation process in a constructive and conscientious manner.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated at a press conference in Budapest on May 6. "We are confident that achieving final peace truly comes from the interests of Armenia and Azerbaijan. I would also like to express cautious optimism in connection with the upcoming negotiations at the level of heads of foreign affairs departments in Almaty in the coming days," Mirzoyan noted, answering a question from an Azerbaijani journalist about expectations from Almaty meeting, scheduled for May 10, and how successful these kinds of so-called "ping-pong" meetings are.
At the same time, Mirzoyan drew the journalist's attention to the fact that thanks to these "ping-pong" meetings or diplomacy, it was possible to reach agreement on numerous issues. He added that parallel processes are taking place at different platforms: the delimitation process has already begun, the principle of their implementation has been agreed upon, the heads of the two states have come to a common denominator on a number of key issues, including the recognition of each other's territorial integrity on the basis of the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991.
"I am confident that my Azerbaijani counterpart and I will be able to clearly reflect all of these in the peace agreement and after that, we will be very close to a final peaceful settlement," the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
At the same time, he admitted that, of course, there are still a number of unresolved issues, including the issue of opening transport routes. "Here we do not yet have a common understanding. But Armenia is interested in starting communications and transport links with Azerbaijan on the basis of the national sovereignty of the countries, on the principles of reciprocity," the chief diplomat of Armenia noted, adding that if all of these can be secured in a peace treaty, then it will be possible to say that the parties will be close to the final goal.
In conclusion, he expressed gratitude to the Hungarian side for the humanitarian assistance provided to the Armenian side.
