Developments on Armenia`s borders result of concessive policy -  opposition MP 

ArmInfo.No one doubts the fact that the current authorities of Armenia have practically trampled on all previous values. The head of the opposition faction "Armenia", former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan stated in :Parliament on May 2, in response to the verbal attack of the NA deputy from the ruling faction "Civil Contract" Babken Tunyan.

Speaking on April 30 at the National Assembly of the Republic of  Armenia, Tunyan asked the question of what representatives of the  opposition would do in this situation if they were in the place of  the current government.

In this regard, as Ohanyan emphasized, changes, especially in the  political field, are necessary in the context of the further  development of the country. But this, as Ohanyan noted, is only  possible if the previous values are preserved, existing shortcomings  are eliminated, and the country moves forward, relying on advanced  positive experience. However, the current government has trampled on  the previous values, be it the integrated Armenia-Artsakh system, or  other values. At the same time, Ohanyan continued, the number of  shortcomings doubled: the country found itself involved in a war, and  amid failures in foreign policy, the risks associated with the  security of the state increased sharply.

"It is for this reason that we criticize you, and you criticize the  former. In the past, many of you were bearers of these values, others  had no positions at all, but today you destroyed everything.  Meanwhile, if the authorities were guided by these values, today  Everything that happened did not happen to Armenia or Artsakh. There  was not a single word of self-criticism on the part of the  authorities," the deputy emphasized.

He noted that if the current opposition were in power, systemic  decisions would be taken based on the current situation.

Based on these steps, the question of what the security of the  Armenian state would be would depend. What is happening today on the  borders of the country is the result of a policy of concessions that  began in the Kubatly region and continued on the Goris-Kapan road,  near the settlements of Sev Lich, Ishkhanasar, Jermuk, etc. Today all  this is manifested in various parts of the Tavush region. Ohanyan  continued that for 3.5 years, the structures of the Ministry of  Defense have not carried out appropriate work to form special units  to conduct legal educational work that could contact the population  in order to avoid direct clashes with law enforcement agencies.

Ohanyan also touched upon the topic of international security  guarantees, especially in the context of forming honest relations  with partners. Based on the geopolitical situation of the country, it  was necessary to carry out work to deepen strategic allied relations  with Russia and strengthen the capabilities of the Joint Group of  Forces. 

"Of course, there are problems here, and they cannot be  avoided, let alone circumvented, but for this it was necessary to  negotiate in order to resolve them. Overcoming the contradictions  that arose should have been one of the main problems, we would have  carried out serious work in this direction ", said the former  Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, adding that the  allies should have made sure that the state's steps were not  destructive and could not lead to a conflict of interests. 

"Our country should not become a platform for competition between  geopolitical centers; on the contrary, it was necessary to carry out  smart work and transfer the problem from the field of competition to  unlocking development potential, so that all centers take into  account our interests. Today, Armenia is practically isolated, which  Azerbaijan constantly takes advantage of," Ohanyan noted.
