ArmInfo.Azerbaijan's ongoing policy of usurping foreign territories is a serious threat to Armenia's security. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Vartan Oskanyan stated on April 29 at a public hearing "Current challenges of the Republic of Armenia and alternative ways to overcome them."
According to him, recently an Olympiad dedicated to the so-called "Western Azerbaijan" was held in Azerbaijan, in which 10 thousand students took part. This fact alone speaks volumes about the seriousness of the moment.
In turn, former Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan noted that Azerbaijan's program for the "development" of Armenian lands provides for the placement of about 300 thousand people in the country, who must have their own security and protection system. This system will have to be provided by representatives of foreign countries, who will be trusted by the so-called "Azerbaijani community of Western Azerbaijan." "It is obvious which countries we are talking about in this case," Tatoyan noted, pointing out the danger of such a development of events.
He also emphasized that according to studies conducted in Baku, 96% of Azerbaijani residents consider Yerevan their territory. "This is their policy. One of the main problems of our policy today is opposition to the history of the Armenian people," the human rights activist said.
He added that he cited only two episodes to show the need for the development and implementation of a national security strategy for Armenia, which is an objective and urgent need today. "But this is absolutely impossible under the current authorities. Moreover, when we see that the actions of the Azerbaijani side are aimed at undermining the security system of the Republic of Armenia," Tatoyan said.
