ArmInfo.Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan has not yet received letters from his partners from the Federation Council of the Russian Federation. Simonyan himself told reporters today.
Earlier, speaking at the at the Conference of Speakers of European Union Parliaments, Simonyan, in particular, stated: "Given the conference's focus on Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the Middle East conflict, I want to restate that Armenia firmly upholds the territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as that of Moldova, Georgia, Cyprus and all other states."
In this regard, Matvienko asked Simonyan on whose behalf he was speaking. "Definitely not on behalf of the Armenian people, with whom Russia has a centuries-old friendship. We cannot ignore this kind of Russophobic speeches. I would send a written request to the Armenian parliament asking on whose behalf he spoke and whether the Armenian parliament shares the assessments expressed at this meeting," Matvienko said. She expressed hope that the country's parliament will also present its position and ask its speaker "who gave him the right to make such passages on behalf of Armenia." "We will not ignore this kind of Russophobic, anti-Russian speech. It was just a shame for our colleague that he had already crossed all the red lines," concluded the speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.
On this occasion, the Speaker of the National Assembly stated that Armenia has never questioned the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Simonyan noted that in his speech he did not use the definition of "illegal," speaking only of "invasion." He added that Yerevan recognizes the territorial integrity of Ukraine, Georgia, Cyprus and other countries, and in this context recognizes the territorial integrity of Russia. "The official position of Armenia has never been different, and the same position applies to Russia, the internationally recognized border of which no one questions. At the same time, even Belarus and Turkey did not recognize the new territories that Russia considers part of its state. Why, for example , Ms. Matvienko and our other partners don't ask anything about this to the President of Turkey, even considering the fact that Erdogan every time emphasizes that he does not recognize Crimea as Russian," Simonyan raised questions.
He also expressed regret that those who talk about the friendship of the Armenian and Russian peoples did not pay attention to the fact that Matvienko's April 24 statement said nothing about the Armenian Genocide. "My counterpart talks about friendship and partnership, but in a statement made on such a day, she does not say a single sentence about this date," the head of the Armenian parliament emphasized.
