ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, at a meeting with residents of Berkaber, said that he does not believe that early parliamentary elections should be held before delimiting the border with Azerbaijan.
Thus, one of the residents of the village of Berkaber, Tavush region, stating that there is a feeling of mistrust in the entire process of delimitation and demarcation of the border with Azerbaijan, since "the current government was re-elected in 2021 with other promises," asked whether the prime minister does not think that before the process it is necessary to submit a resignation and hold early elections.
"I don't think it should be like that. Because what we do is our reaction to global geopolitical changes in the world. We can hold (extraordinary parliamentary - ed.) elections next month... After those elections, a war began between Russia and Ukraine. We can hold elections and a war will start between someone else, which will have a concrete impact on our situation," Pashinyan said.
According to him, the task of the authorities is to adapt the people to the changing situation, because this is a condition for life and development. "And there is not a single point in our election program that we would not follow completely and sincerely," Pashinyan said.
He also touched upon reproaches regarding Nagorno-Karabakh's right to self-determination and secession in the name of salvation. "We followed this too," the prime minister said.
"There will be elections in 2026. Gone are the days when someone told you how to vote. Decide to change the government - you will change it. But today, understanding this, in a sense, I sacrifice myself in the name of the Republic of Armenia. "I know that this is unpopular," Pashinyan said.
The head of the RA Cabinet of Ministers emphasized that what he is doing, he is doing so that Armenia becomes a truly independent state, and not an outpost. "I know this is having a very negative impact on my political career. But a leader is a leader because he sacrifices everything for the sake of the state and for the sake of the future, when necessary," he said.
As Pashinyan noted, there should be no trenches in front of Berkaber's houses, but there should be gardens. "There should not be a front line, but a border with a checkpoint. If you want to communicate, communicate; if you don't want to, don't communicate," Pashinyan said.
"What is this all about? They talk all sorts of things about me, about my children, my wife, about my parents and even about my grandfather. Do you think I have no dignity or I can't answer?
No, I understand that the moment comes when you must sacrifice yourself for the sake of your Motherland, for the sake of your country. Sacrifice your respect, your name, the mental state of your children, the peace of your family, the good memory of your parents, and the good memory of your grandfather, but you must know why you are doing this. I know why I'm doing this, I'm doing it so that this Republic of Armenia will be an independent state," Pashinyan said.
He once again demonstrated the "map of Armenia," after which one of those present asked: "Is Artsvashen there?" Pashinyan gave a positive answer and showed a separateof Artsvashen.
As the Prime Minister noted, "even if we want, we will not be able to give up our sovereign territory, since the Constitution of Armenia says that territorial changes in Armenia are possible only as a result of a referendum.
