ArmInfo.Azerbaijan, with its provocative actions on the border, is trying to increase pressure on Armenia, opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan told reporters.
According to him, the pressure is not exerted at the verbal level to influence the negotiation process, but directly at the country's borders. Moreover, this time the targets of the Azerbaijani armed forces are peaceful settlements. After the 44-day war, when the Kashatagh region of Artsakh was surrendered, a number of villages in Armenia, including Khoznavar, Aramus and others, became border villages. Previously, as the deputy noted, there were isolated incidents in areas adjacent to these villages, but there were no attacks directly on the houses of local residents.
However, Abrahamyan sees no threat to large-scale military operations, which does not mean the enemy's appetite has diminished. It's just that Baku is currently more focused on local actions in areas that may be of strategic interest to Azerbaijan. In this context, the discourse regarding the four villages of the Tavush region, which the Armenian authorities want to transfer to the control of Baku, is quite painful. According to Azerbaijan's calculations, the 4+4 format (4 border villages of Azerbaijan and 4 so-called enclave villages) will create a rather vulnerable situation for Armenia. Organizing defense in these areas will be a very difficult task, not to mention the most serious problems associated with infrastructures. By creating an atmosphere of terror, Abrahamyan emphasized, Azerbaijan is seeking to create favorable conditions for itself for the negotiation process.
The deputy, referring to a message from the office of Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, accused the current Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan of lying, who had previously stated that the process of delimitation and demarcation of borders will begin with the Tavush region. According to a statement from the Deputy Prime Minister's office, there are no agreements about the start of this process. To start negotiations, an appropriate contractual and documentary base is needed, including maps, on the basis of which the process of border delimitation should begin.
