ArmInfo.Armenia expresses hope that the shelling of border villages in Armenia by the Azerbaijani armed forces will receive a proper assessment from the European Union civilian observer mission. Andranik Kocharyan, Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defense and Security told reporters on April 8.
He noted that as a result of the shelling, the windows of the houses of the residents of the border villages were broken, which, as the MP assured, will be restored. "Everything possible must be done to ensure that there are no more shootings. Irregular and aimless shootings are a manifestation of Baku's hysteria.
The soldiers from that side decided to shoot at our settlements. Such cases were quite frequent," the parliamentarian emphasized.
He noted that he does not see any sign from Azerbaijan to turn the situation towards an escalation of tension. If this becomes obvious, the Armenian side will undertake full-fledged defense of border villages. He noted that there are more than enough parties interested in hindering the peace process between Yerevan and Baku, and it is not only Azerbaijan, and there are even similar ones within the Armenian state.
On the night of April 6-7, as well as on April 7, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire on a number of settlements in the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions of Armenia using small arms.
