ArmInfo. The Armenian Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Turkish province of Sivas (Sebastia) is put up for sale.
As Ermeni haber reports with reference to Agos, after the Armenian Genocide of 1915, the abandoned church became the property of a local resident named Hatice Akay, who, having decided to sell it, turned to a real estate agency.
A real estate agent, speaking to the Turkish news agency DHA, said that there are no obstacles to selling the church: "There is ownership and there are no obstacles to selling. The church is a Category 1 conservation area and is under protection. From today we put it up for sale for 16 million lire (about $500,000)."
Notably, the church is located in the village of Goydan and was built in the 19th century and received the status of a Category 1 protected area in 2012.
