ArmInfo.Parliamentary diplomacy is a powerful tool for countries to participate in solving global problems, formulate foreign policy and strengthen peaceful international relations, Armenian NA Vice-Speaker Hakob Arshakyan stated at the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
According to him, quoted by the press service of the Armenian parliament, Yerevan remains committed to peace and stability in the South Caucasus region and is ready to make further efforts to achieve this goal. Negotiations continue with Azerbaijan aimed at concluding a peace treaty, delimiting borders and unblocking transport communications. These efforts are based on principles previously discussed and approved by the leaders of the two countries.
First of all, we are talking about the fact that Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity on the basis of the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991. Secondly, this declaration is the political basis for the delimitation process. According to the document, the newly independent republics of the former USSR, including Armenia and Azerbaijan, agreed to recognize the former Soviet administrative boundaries among themselves as interstate borders. And thirdly, regional transport communications must be unblocked taking into account the sovereignty and jurisdiction of transit countries, based on the principle of equality and reciprocity.
"Armenia's views on this topic are summarized in the Crossroads of the World project. The Crossroads of the World initiative will facilitate communication between the two states, economies, peoples and international stakeholders. This approach is vital to strengthening peace, prosperity and trust between the two countries and the region in Overall. Finally, I am pleased to announce that Armenia will host the 10th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in September 2024. I invite all young parliamentarians to take part in this conference and experience the hospitality of the people of Yerevan and Armenia. I thank all states, as well as parliamentarians, international organizations for supporting the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan," the Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia concluded his speech.
