ArmInfo. The United States supports the continued democratic development, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of all countries of the South Caucasus. This was reported by the US State Department in response to a request from the Armenian service of the Voice of America regarding an analysis by the RAND Corporation entitled "The U.S. Can't Guarantee Armenia's Security, Despite Azerbaijan's Threats, but It Can Help."
" It is a core principle of US policy throughout the region, and it is to this end that we are expanding [our] engagement with Armenia in a wide-ranging relationship, "the State Department noted.
At the same time, the US State Department welcomed any good-faith cooperation that would bring peace and stability to the peoples of the South Caucasus. "We have witnessed Russia's ongoing destructive aggression against Ukraine, its ongoing occupation of Georgia's sovereign territory and destabilizing actions in the region and throughout the world. Therefore, we cannot consider Russia as a reliable and bona fide ally or partner in the South Caucasus or anywhere else," the American foreign policy department stated.
Regarding the Iran factor, the State Department emphasized: "We have consistently encouraged countries of this region [the South Caucasus] to comprehensively assess Iran's intentions and exercise caution in all dealings with the Iranian regime."
Recently the prestigious American RAND Corporation on its website published an analysis by Joe Haberman and Paul Cormarie, "T The U.S. Can't Guarantee Armenia's Security, Despite Azerbaijan's Threats, but It Can Help." Analysts say the United States should pursue a more cautious strategy, both in its own interests and in the interests of Armenia. It was noted that the United States must provide Armenia with the means to defend itself while setting clear expectations regarding the boundaries of its obligations.
