ArmInfo. Currently, no foreign policy force is anymore interested in Azerbaijan's further expansionist and militaristic steps. Former Minister of Justice of Armenia, Doctor of Law Gevorg Danielyan, shares such an opinion.
"I think that the terrible fate that Armenia is facing is an inevitable consequence of both its own policy and objective geopolitical developments. Unfortunately, their coincidence was extremely inappropriate, but predictable," he wrote on his Facebook page.
The expert notes that after 2014, when Crimea passed to Russia and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict ripened, the importance of Turkiye in the political life of Russia increased sharply and became almost irreplaceable. Turkiye was able to simultaneously assume the role of a key NATO member and an unprecedented economic and military ally of Russia.
"Without TurkIye, Azerbaijan could practically achieve nothing, so an opportune moment was chosen, which could reasonably have been prevented only by the reasonable policy of Armenia, as a result of which Azerbaijan got incomparably more and still has expectations.
Currently, no foreign policy force is anymore interested in Azerbaijan's further expansionist and militaristic steps; in particular, the West's interests lie in the uninterrupted supply of gas, oil and the exploitation of gold deposits, which it has already achieved.
Further territorial changes, with the exception of the Meghri corridor, do not affect Russia's interests. The president of this country even states that it is necessary to be guided by the 1926 map kept in the Russian General Staff, according to which Armenia has 31,000 square km and there is not a single enclave, with the exception of Artsvashen.
In any case, at present, the surrender of 4 villages not only de jure, but also de facto will lead to territorial changes, which is only possible through a referendum.", Gevorg Danielyan concluded.
