Deepening Armenian-Indian relations is one of the foreign policy priorities, which is enshrined in the government program, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan stated during discussions in Parliament dedicated to the development of relations between Armenia and India. The discussions were led by the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Armenia, Chairman of the Armenia-India Parliamentary Friendship Group Hakob Arshakyan.
The Deputy Foreign Minister noted that in recent years relations with India have entered a phase of intensive development, in particular, he also pointed to the progress of the political dialogue between the parties. At the same time, he attached importance to the development of interparliamentary interaction.
In turn, the vice speaker emphasized that every effort must be made in the context of developing relations with India to achieve real results. He expressed his readiness to assist in the implementation of programs aimed at developing bilateral relations.
According to the press service of the Parliament, during the meeting the participants discussed the possibilities of developing trade and economic cooperation, noting in this regard the need to increase the volume of mutual trade. The agenda also included issues related to the implementation of programs in the cultural sphere, cooperation in the fields of tourism, film production, healthcare, and migration.
Members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, representatives of relevant structures and executive departments took part in the discussion. It should be noted that according to the Ministry of Economy, in 2023 trade turnover between Armenia and India increased by 7%, amounting to $380 million.
