ArmInfo. Moscow is discussing with Armenia the involvement of Yerevan by Western countries in their anti-Russian course in order to warn the republic about the risks, representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"Unfortunately, we have been seeing this trend for quite a long time and we are talking about it. We speak, including very confidentially, with our Armenian colleagues and partners, with only one goal - to warn," she said.
According to the Foreign Ministry representative, Moscow sincerely wants Armenia to preserve its sovereignty and build a policy based on national interests. She explained that national interests are not what "someone wrote there in Brussels or somewhere else in some capital," but those that reflect the cultural identity of the people, coupled with the interests of the people living and raising their children in Armenia.
She also added that there is a historical answer to Yerevan's doubts about the sincerity of Russia's intentions in relations with Armenia: "Moscow has come to the rescue and defended the republic many times." "This is the number of our guys who defended Armenia. And the efforts of the Russian leadership and personally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he invested in order to repeatedly stop the bloodshed in this region," Zakharova pointed out. She noted that this is the "strength test" that Moscow has passed in relations with Yerevan.
