ArmInfo.Moscow heard statements by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about the possibility of Armenia leaving the CSTO, there is a lot of work ahead now, contacts are needed to clarify the situation. Spokesperson of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov announced.
"Of course, we have heard these statements. Obviously, of course, there is a lot of work ahead now. We need contacts both within the CSTO and at the bilateral level with our Armenian partners. We will clarify and talk in line with the statements made by Mr. Prime Minister, Peskov answered, RIA Novosti reports.
At the same time, Peskov suggested to readdress the question of how the CSTO assesses such statements by Pashinyan to the CSTO and clarified that the Kremlin cannot speak on behalf of the organization. "Of course, there is some work to be done within the CSTO," concluded the spokesperson of the head of state.
On March 12, Pashinyan said that Armenia would leave the CSTO if the organization did not answer the questions raised by Yerevan regarding the country's sovereign territory.
Earlier, in mid-February, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with France 24 that Yerevan had frozen its participation in the CSTO. He also did not attend the CSTO summit in Minsk. Spokesperson of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov noted that Moscow continues contacts with Yerevan to clarify Pashinyan's statements. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Russia is awaiting clarification on this matter from Armenia through bilateral channels. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the dynamics of Yerevan's participation in CSTO events has decreased, which does not meet the interests of the 'friendly' Armenian people, and called for discussing and eliminating concerns in a calm, trusting dialogue.
