ArmInfo.Yerevan is working to return Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated on March 12 at a press conference, referring to the efforts of the RA authorities to return prisoners illegally held by Baku, as well as the statement of Russian leader Vladimir Putin that "they don't really want to see the former leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh in Yerevan."
As Pashinyan indicated, he will refrain from commenting on the statement of the Russian President. At the same time, according to him, Yerevan is consistently working on the return of prisoners, hostages and other persons held in Azerbaijan. "I understand that describing this daily work is meaningless until there is a result. It is difficult to assess the efficiently of this work until there is a return process," Pashinyan said. As the PM noted, many may not believe the authorities' assurances, but this work sometimes looks like 'Sisyphean task', but, nevertheless, it is constantly being carried out.
According to official data, more than 20 Armenian prisoners remain in Baku, including former leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh. These are former Artsakh presidents Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, former Foreign Minister David Babayan, as well as Parliament Speaker David Ishkhanyan, ex-commander of the Artsakh Defense Army, General Levon Mnatsakanyan, General David Manukyan and ex-Minister of State Ruben Vardanyan.
