ArmInfo. Armenia's Premier Nikol Pashinyan confirmed that Yerevan sent an official letter to Moscow about its intention to take control of the border checkpoint at the Armenian capital's Zvartnots airport.
Speaking at a press conference on March 12, the head of the Armenian government emphasized that he did not like the wording that was being voiced in the media space. Meanwhile, according to Pashinyan, the wording in the official letter sounds slightly different. "The border troops of Armenia sent a letter to the border troops of the FSB of Russia, in which, expressing gratitude for the assistance provided in carrying out the mission to ensure security and control at the airport, they declared their intention to carry out the service on their own," the RA Prime Minister noted.
He added that the letter was sent against the backdrop of the development of the country's state institutions, including with the assistance of the Russian Federation. The head of the Armenian government continued, the border troops of Armenia, having acquired relevant experience and knowledge, today already have the ability to carry out border control on their own.
Earlier, Secretary of the RA Security Council Armen Grigoryan reported that Armenia sent a letter to Russia in which it stated that Armenian border guards should serve at the Zvartnots airport. According to him, Yerevan has all the possibilities for this.
Meanwhile, according to Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, the Armenian leadership did not officially notify the Kremlin of its plans to withdraw Russian border guards from the Yerevan airport.
