ArmInfo.Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
According to the government's press service, during the meeting Pashinyan touched upon the processes taking place in the South Caucasus region, discussions around the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace treaty, and humanitarian problems of forcibly displaced citizens from Nagorno-Karabakh.
Pashinyan presented in detail the government's "Crossroads of Peace" project. He noted that Armenia is ready for the opening of regional transport communications on the bases of principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, reciprocity and equality.
In turn, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States emphasized the importance of cooperation with the government of the Republic of Armenia on various international issues, including for the purpose of presenting positions and views. Ahmed Aboul Gheit noted the centuries-old close ties between the Armenian and Arab peoples, which is a good basis for the development of cooperation.
During the meeting, the interlocutors also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East region, in particular in the Gaza Strip. The importance of taking consistent steps to establish peace and stability was emphasized.
According to the source, as part of his official visit to Egypt, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also visited St. Mark's Cathedral in Cairo, where he met with the Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark of All Africa and the Middle East Theodore (Tawadros) II . The parties discussed issues of further strengthening ties between the two countries.
