ArmInfo.Russia is viewing its relations with Armenia through the prism of the region's geopolitical trust in it and overestimating its superiority, believes David Ananyan, former head of the RA State Revenue Committee.
"Relations between the states of the post-Soviet region can often become complicated (in practice they become complicated) due to an incorrect understanding of historical and geopolitical realities.
"In the case of relations between Russia and Armenia, there is clearly a certain underestimation of the latter on the part of Russia. This, for example, can be indirectly judged on the basis of an analysis of diplomatic interaction between the two countries, in particular, from the point of view of the activities (more precisely, inaction) of the Russian ambassador and the Russian Embassy in Armenia," Ananyan wrote on Facebook.
According to him, the lack of initiatives to replace the Russian ambassador (as a result of which his country's leaders and decision-makers receive obvious misinformation) underscores Russia's perception of Armenia as a partner that does not require special diplomatic attention or periodic adjustments in approaches. "It is assumed that Moscow proceeds from the presumption that at any time when it deems it necessary to increase its influence or interfere in the internal political life of Armenia, it will not face serious obstacles to the implementation of its plans. This assumption signals a perception of Armenia as a state where Russian influence is so great that Moscow can afford to somewhat underestimate the official aspects of bilateral relations, including the level of diplomatic representation.
This approach to interstate relations shows the need for further analysis of the uncertainty of the dynamics of relations between Russia and Armenia, including adjustment of mutual expectations, assessment of new realities and expectations, without which it is no longer realistic to expect balanced interaction," says David Ananyan.
