ArmInfo. Yerevan has not yet received a response from the CSTO to the question raised, which concerns the area of responsibility of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in the Republic of Armenia. Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol stated on February 28 during government hour in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, the fact that the question remains unanswered poses a threat to national security, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia. Pashinyan emphasized that the issue arose after the developments of May and November 2021, as well as September 2023. The CSTO mission conducted research in Armenia, based on the results of which it was supposed to assess those cases. "In fact, our CSTO partners refused to give an assessment, which led to the current situation," Pashinyan said. He also commented on his statement about the freeze of relations with the CSTO.
According to the Prime Minister, it has been exactly one year that Armenia has not had its permanent representative in the CSTO. Representatives of the republic have not taken part in CSTO events for a long period of time. However, taking into account the consensus decision-making mechanism in the Organization, Yerevan does not pose any obstacles to the CSTO.
Pashinyan noted that the EU and its members recognized Armenia's territorial integrity at the summits held in Prague and Granada. Russia has also recognized the territorial integrity of Armenia by signing a tripartite statement on October 31, 2022, which is also signed by the President of the Russian Federation. "At the CSTO summit in Yerevan, we proposed to include this clause in the text of the Organization's statement so that Armenia would become the CSTO's area of responsibility, but this did not happen. If our status in CSTO is already frozen de facto, then it should be frozen de jure as well," Pashinyan said.
