ArmInfo. Work is underway to open a route from Azerbaijan to Nakhijevan through Armenia.
According to media reports, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu told the Hurriyet newspaper.
"Work is underway on the route passing through Armenia. Its length is 43 kilometers. But if there are problems on the Armenian side, then Azerbaijan also has contacts with Iran regarding the possibility of passing the route through the territory of Iran," Uraloglu noted.
According to him, both options are now being considered. Regarding the question of what stage the construction is at, the Turkish official said that the Azerbaijani side continues construction work on its territory. A tender has also been announced for the construction of a road from Turkey to Nakhijevan.
It should be noted that the Meghri route is a project of a transport route about 40 km long through the territory of the Syunik region of Armenia, which would provide transport links between the western regions of Azerbaijan and its exclave Nakhijevan Autonomous Republic. The opening of transport routes in the region was provided for by the agreements that stopped the 44-day Azerbaijani aggression against Artsakh in the fall of 2020. However, Azerbaijan is now trying to get an extraterritorial corridor instead of a transit road.
