Mirzoyan, Borrell referred to Azerbaijan`s latest provocation at  border

ArmInfo.On the eve of the meeting of the RA-EU Business Council in Brussels on February 13,  Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission had a private conversation.

According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, an  exchange of views took place on the RA-EU partnership agenda, the  process of implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced  Partnership Agreement (CEPA), democratic processes in Armenia, and  joint steps taken in the recent period to develop partnership in new  directions and existing prospects were also touched upon.  Security  issues in the South Caucasus were also discussed.

In this context, reference was made to the incident that happened on  the Armenian-Azerbaijani border this morning. In particular, another  provocation and the use of force by the armed forces of Azerbaijan in  the area of Nerkin Hand settlement of Syunik region of the Republic  of Armenia. The RA Foreign Minister emphasized that this incident  once again shows that Azerbaijan is looking for pretexts for border  escalation and is constantly trying to disrupt the efforts of parties  interested in the stability and security of the South Caucasus to  resume negotiations.

The restraint of further steps aimed at destabilizing the situation  in the South Caucasus was highlighted.

On the morning of February 13, the Armenian Ministry of Defense  reported that the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire on Armenian  combat positions on the border in the Nerkin Hand (Syunik region). 

According to the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, four servicemen were  killed and one more was injured.

Azerbaijan not only does not deny the fact of aggression, but also  cynically stated that they carried out a 'revenge operation' in  response to a "provocation" by the Armenian military. At the same  time, they added that as a result of these actions, the Armenian  combat post was destroyed. It is noteworthy that all this is  happening in the territories of Armenia, which were previously  captured by the enemy side against the background of the  international community's tacit encouragement of Azerbaijani  aggression.
