ArmInfo. On February 12, the French Senate will host a round table on the topic: "Strengthening and developing French-Armenian decentralized cooperation." The event will be held under the high patronage of the President of the French Senate, Gerard Larche, in partnership with the United Cities France organization.
As the the official website of the French Senate reports, parliamentarians, local elected officials, French and Armenian diplomats will share their experiences around four topics: the political and geopolitical situation in Armenia a few months after Azerbaijan's offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh; the issues and needs of Armenian communities in the face of Armenia's security and diplomatic challenges; the Senate's support for Armenia through its parliamentary diplomacy; news of French-Armenian decentralized cooperation.
As of today, there are more than fifty decentralized cooperation partnerships between the local authorities of France and Armenia.
"This round table marks a further step in the support provided by the Senate to Armenia. We thus hope to further strengthen partnerships between local authorities of the two countries, in a context where the challenges have never been so important," noted Loic Herve, Vice-President of the Senate in charge of interparliamentary cooperation and interparliamentary friendship groups.
The report also notes that Armenia is facing a serious crisis following Azerbaijan's military aggression in Nagorno-Karabakh on September 20, 2023. Its local authorities are on the front line to welcome around 100,000 refugees who fled the fighting and the collapse of the Artsakh Republic. On Wednesday, January 17, the Senate adopted a resolution condemning Azerbaijan's military attack in Nagorno-Karabakh and preventing any further attempts of aggression and violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.
