ArmInfo.Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan participated in a panel discussion at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael (Clingendael Institute).
During the discussion, with the participation of representatives of expert circles and analytical journalists, Mirzoyan presented in detail the current security situation in the South Caucasus, the features of the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including negotiations on a draft peace agreement. The head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry spoke about Yerevan's steps and proposals to agree on the project, on the one hand, and Azerbaijan's ambitions to delay the process, on the other hand.
Mirzoyan emphasized the need for unambiguous recognition of each other's territorial integrity and the need to ensure maximum certainty in the further delimitation process based on the Alma-Ata Declaration and the latest legitimate maps of the USSR. In the context of unblocking regional transport and economic channels, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry emphasized the inadmissibility of any "corridor" logic for the Republic of Armenia. In this vein, he recalled that Yerevan has repeatedly expressed its readiness to provide the necessary facilitated mechanisms that will operate exclusively under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia. In this context, the concept of the "Crossroads of Peace" developed by the RA government was mentioned, that is, the creation of effective routes and conditions connecting the North with the South and the East with the West, including as a guarantee of stability in the South Caucasus.
Mirzoyan also answered questions of interest to those present. Regarding the deepening of the RA-EU partnership, the minister noted that Armenia's relations with the European integration structure are based on common values and democratic principles, including the effective implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, as well as the development of new areas of cooperation.
Armenia's top diplomat also touched upon steps taken by the government to address the needs and rights of the Armenian population forcibly displaced from their homeland as a result of Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh.
