ArmInfo.Former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan intends to take part in the parliamentary elections in 2026. He told reporters on February 7.
"Naturally, we will participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections," Marutyan said when asked. He added that his supporters have many requests and demands regarding the creation of their own party. "We are in this process. Soon we will have a party. And it doesn't matter whether it is newly created or is already 20-30 years old, it must definitely participate in the most important political processes in the Republic of Armenia. If there are no early elections, we will take part in parliamentary elections in 2026. And since I will be the head of the party, naturally I will also be a candidate for prime minister," Marutyan said.
As for current affairs, as the former mayor emphasized, task number one is to remove the current mayor of the capital, Tigran Avinyan, from office. For this, Marutyan continued, it is necessary that the opposition does not take part in meetings of the Council of Elders of Yerevan for three months, after which new elections will follow. The former mayor called on the opposition to join this initiative. Marutyan considers himself the only consensus figure in the opposition around whom people can unite.
