ArmInfo.Armenia's Minister of Justice has not yet started discussions on the draft constitution, Minister of Justice Ara Mkrtchyan told reporters on February 1.
According to him, there are no specific dates for discussions regarding specific regulations. Speaking about the contradictions in the current Constitution related to the Declaration of Independence and the fact of the Armenian genocide, the Deputy Minister pointed out the importance of discussing this problem with the professional community. "So far, these discussions have not begun, and, therefore, these problems have not been considered either," Mkrtchyan said, noting that the Basic Law is a legal document for any state, and is an important component for increasing the country's competitiveness not only in the region, but in general . "If a country has a good Constitution, on the basis of which a democratic and social state is built, then it will only benefit from this. The current Basic Law is also competitive and democratic, but public relations require new approaches, since these relations are constantly developing," the deputy minister emphasized.
According to the prime minister, the government sets the task of creating and developing a legal, democratic state on the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Armenia. "And this should be the strategic perception of the future of our country," he pointed out. According to the head of the Cabinet, changes are taking place in the world, which will inevitably affect the South Caucasus region, and Armenia is changing. "This change can be treated differently. But no matter how we treat evolution, it happens. Therefore, our position and approach should not be to stop this evolution, this in itself is illogical, because by stopping evolution, we will come to degradation, but the point is to manage it in accordance with the state interests of Armenia," Pashinyan said, pointing out in this regard the need for a new Constitution.
