ArmInfo.A meeting between the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Armenia Muhammetgeldi Ayazov and the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia Karen Giloyan was held.
During the meeting, attention was paid to questions of cooperation in the field of sports within the framework of the Memorandum of understanding between government bodies responsible for sports, signed in 2017.
Karen Giloyan informed the Ambassador that the northern city of Armenia Gyumri has been declared the sports capital of the CIS countries in 2024, where the conference of the Council on Physical Culture and Sports of the CIS countries will also be held, and that since September 1, 2023, he has been elected and chairs the Council on Physical Culture and Sports of the CIS countries.
Ambassador M. Ayazov, in his turn, said that Turkmenistan has become the venue for major international sporting events and expressed his gratitude to deputy minister for the active participation of Armenian sportsmen in the mentioned events.
The parties expressed their readiness for the mutual participation of sportsmen of the two states in sports and educational events in both countries.
In this context, it is noteworthy to mention that Turkmen sportsmen, namely weightlifters and swimmers, passed training camps in sports complexes in Armenia before the Tokyo Olympics. There online chess master classes have been held, and every year the Embassy in Yerevan holds a bike ride dedicated to the World Bicycle Day.
