ArmInfo. The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) reacted with sarcasm to a memorable gift presented by Hulus Akar, a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on National Defense, and former Minister of National Defense of Turkey, to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Akar handed Aliyev a battle ax - a bladed weapon used by Turkic warriors in the old days.
"Celebrating Safarov ! - the cowardly axe-murderer who killed a sleeping Armenian officer during a NATO training program," the Committee wrote on its microblog page on Twitter (X), posting a video of the presentation of the commemorative gift.
Let us note that Akar today held a meeting with Aliyev in Baku. During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the interaction between Azerbaijan and Turkey in the military sector, in the field of defense industry, security, inter-parliamentary relations and other areas, and the importance of joint military exercises conducted by the armed forces of both countries was especially noted. During the meeting, the parties once again praised each other for the aggression committed against Artsakh in the fall of 2020, and then for its complete occupation in September 2023.
On February 19, 2004, Azerbaijani Army Lieutenant Ramil Safarov took an axe and bludgeoned to death Gurgen Margaryan, an officer in the Armenian army who was asleep at the Budapest military academy where they were attending English-language courses organised by NATO. After nearly decapitating Margaryan, Safarov stabbed his corpse repeatedly in the chest. Safarov was arrested and tried in Hungarian court. In 2006, he was sentenced to life in prison. On August 31, 2012, Ramil Safarov was extradited to Azerbaijan, where he was greeted as a hero.
