ArmInfo. Ex-head of Armenia's State Revenue Committee David Ananyan has commented on the PACE decision against ratifying the Azerbaijani delegation's credentials. According to him, it is "whipping in public" that has nothing in common with the processes surrounding Armenia or Artsakh.
Ananyan stated that on January 24, the great Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe opened its political arms and excluded Azerbaijan from its exclusive club for a whole year. According to him, just like that, to the sounds of a virtuoso melody about the violation of human rights, the situation in Nagorno- Karabakh and other heartbreaking notes.
In this vein, he added that, naturally, the decision was made subject to return, naturally, with the hopeless hope that Azerbaijan would unconditionally accept surrender according to PACE standards.
"PACE so subtly refers to the PACE resolution "Ensuring free and safe access through the Lachin corridor" that it seems to be trying to hide its outdatedness and its own helplessness in implementing preventive measures. At the same time, PACE cynically expresses deep regret about the lack of opportunity to visit the Lachin corridor.
However, the most interesting thing is that PACE observers did not receive the blessing to participate in the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, which will take place on February 7, 2024. What a celebration of political culture they will miss.
And the political authorities of Armenia rejoice and admire with their characteristic illiteracy, ignorance and populism, seriously believing that the PACE resolution is its main diplomatic victory," the former head of the State Duma wrote on his Facebook page.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that the reality is that the West turned a blind eye to the forced de-Armenization of Artsakh as a result of the genocidal actions carried out by Azerbaijan last September, hoping under the veil of "dark deals" that this would help push Russia out of the region and force Baku to fulfill its obligations - in the context of actions against Iran.
"But unexpectedly for everyone, Azerbaijan decides to demonstrate its diplomacy in this performance - not to be a puppet. Aliyev, having absorbed Artsakh, makes a sharp turn in the other direction and joins the Russian-Iranian wing, welcoming the presence of Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh, initiating important negotiations with Iran and etc. Azerbaijan clearly does not hesitate to demonstrate its independence by refusing to go to Granada and pointing to its preferred (Russian) platform for resolving issues.
And then the West, like a director who saw an unexpected twist in the plot, decides to use its favorite tools - yellow cards in the form of resolutions that shine with bright lights in the political mosaic, from the French Senate to PACE. Everything is very simple, clear and has nothing to do with us: the West decided to punish the rebel," Ananyan concluded.
On January 24, PACE decided against approving the Azerbaijani delegation's credentials, arguing that the country had not fulfilled the main obligations arising from its accession to the Council of Europe 20 years ago. In response to these actions of the European deputies, Azerbaijan threatened to withdraw not only from PACE, but also from the Council of Europe.
