ArmInfo. It is difficult to withdraw a signature from a document that, in fact, is not valid. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated on January 23 at a press conference in Yerevan, summing up the results of 2023, in response to the question whether Yerevan could withdraw its signature from the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020.
In this vein, the Armenian minister drew attention to the fact that the two parties, in fact, did not fulfill their obligations under this document. "There is more than enough evidence and examples - it refers not only to Nagorno Karabakh and the Lachin Corridor, but also to many other issues. "Armenia has fulfilled all the obligations assumed by this statement," he noted.
At the same time, regarding the issue of an extraterritorial corridor through the territory of Armenia, Mirzoyan emphasized that the Republic of Armenia did not undertake any obligations to provide a corridor through its territory either under the tripartite statement of November 9 or under any other document. "Our approach is as follows: the Republic of Armenia is not only ready, but also interested in the opening of all economic and transport communications in the region. not only in the narrow Azerbaijan-Nakhijevan context, but also in a broader context, which Armenia should also benefit from," the minister said .
At the same time, he once again emphasized that communications must be used while respecting the sovereignty of the states through which they pass, in accordance with the legislation of the country through which they pass. At the same time, Mirzoyan noted that the demands put forward by Azerbaijan that Azerbaijanis should move along this route without customs and border regulations, under the control of Russian border guards, violate the sovereignty of Armenia and cannot be acceptable.
"No one can cross our border without checks. Of course, we are ready to liberalize some procedures, but so that there are no checks at all, it is ruled out. The same applies to customs procedures. This is the corridor logic, which for us unacceptable", he said, also assuring that there is supposedly no provision in the tripartite statement that would say that security will be provided by some third party.
He also reaffirmed Armenia's readiness to ensure the safety of both cargo and people moving through Armenian territory.
Mirzoyan also rejected accusations from the Russian side that it was the Prague agreements, signed by the Prime Minister of Armenia, that sealed the fate of Artsakh by including it into Azerbaijan.
