ArmInfo. Humanitarian issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan remain unresolved. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced at a press conference held in Yerevan on January 23, summarizing the 2023.
The chief diplomat of Armenia recalled the exchange of prisoners of war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which took place on December 7, 2023. In this vein, he recalled that Armenia supported Azerbaijan's candidacy for COP29. "This was a positive development against the backdrop of the stalled process of concluding a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan," Mirzoyan noted, adding that Armenia will continue efforts to establish an environment of trust between the parties.
In this vein, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry recalled that earlier, as a gesture of goodwill, Armenia handed over maps of minefields to Azerbaijan. According to him, after this, the Azerbaijani side repeatedly accused Armenia of transferring unreliable maps, which is groundless.
"The Armenian side is making clarifications through various channels, and if we have new information regarding the minefields, I do not rule out their transfer to the Azerbaijani side in the future. Although I think that it should be done through international mediation, in order to avoid all sorts of speculations about the unreliability of the transmitted information," said Mirzoyan.
At the same time, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry also touched upon the destructive position of Azerbaijan, which was reflected in the seventh package of proposals for the peace treaty, in particular, their position on border demarcation. The Armenian minister considered Azerbaijan's desire to draw a new arbitrary border between the two countries unacceptable.. The diplomat once again emphasized that this can only be done on the basis of maps of the USSR General Staff by joint commissions on border delimitation, and nothing else.
