ArmInfo. "And what if the war began tomorrow? And Azerbaijan penetrates another 20 km deep into the territory of Armenia, since it does not recognize the border, what will happen then?", the opposition MP of the "Armenia" faction Artur Khachatryan asked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on January 17 in parliament during government hour.
The MP reminded that earlier the authorities of Armenia announced that by surrendering Artsakh to Baku, the Republic of Armenia will achieve the recognition of the territorial integrity of the republic of 29.8 thousand square kilometers. However, Baku has never recognized the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia on the territory of 29.8 thousand square kilometers.
"As a result, a completely new situation has de3veloped and Baku continues its aggressive rhetoric. Never before has Azerbaijan been so aggressive and disrespectful towards Armenia. A qualitatively new security situation has developed in the region. What countermeasures do you propose?," Khachatryan asked the head of the Cabinet of Ministers.
"In this situation, as before, our approach and our defense must be legitimacy. International legal legitimacy regarding the border and territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia," Pashinyan said in response. According to the head of the government, during more than 30 years of independence in Armenia, the idea of territorial integrity and sovereignty of the republic has been "blurred", and this is a fundamental problem.
The Prime Minister also touched upon the statements of Baku leader Ilham Aliyev in an interview with local TV channels. Then Aliyev stated that if the "Zangezur corridor" is not opened, then Baku will not open the border with Armenia in any other place, and that "people and cargo from Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan [through Armenia to Nakhichevan] must pass without any checks.
Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia is ready to open the road to Nakhichevan for Azerbaijan on the same conditions as Iran. According to him, if through Armenia the distance from the main territory of Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan is about 47 km, then the route through Iran is 49 km. And if control functions are acceptable in the case of the 49th km, then it is not clear why they are unacceptable in the case of the 47th km, the Armenian prime minister noted.
