ArmInfo. It is not Iranian, but Russian border guards who stand on the state border of Armenia, and Russia cannot ignore this factor. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin stated on PTA air, responding to accusations that, unlike Iran, France and Western countries, the Russian Federation has not expressed a clear position on the issue of the inviolability of the state borders of the Republic of Armenia.
In this vein, he added that for Russia the life of each of its soldiers is important and valuable, and therefore it is interested in ensuring that the peace process does not stall. "I believe that this is one of the indications that Russia does not deviate from its allied obligations. But Russia is not populist with its statements and actions. It does not make open statements because it is deeply and practically related to the problems of the region. This is of vital importance to us. There should be stability here without excessive tension. And conditions should be created to solve the existing problems in order to create a basis for peace and stability," he said.
At the same time, Kopyrkin did not answer the question whether Russia will help Armenia if it is suddenly attacked. According to him, it is wrong to ask such a question to the diplomat, because there is no reason to claim that the Russian Federation deviates from the alliance relations with Armenia. "I cannot discuss hypothetical developments, let the experts do it," said the ambassador.
The diplomat expressed his conviction that today it is in the interests of all interested players to make efforts to establish long-awaited peace in the region. According to him, despite the fact that the Armenian side does not show interest in holding negotiations on the Russian platform, Russia still continues its efforts to ensure peace in the region, since this is very important for it.
The diplomat also admitted that attempts are being made to shift all responsibility for the tragedy in the region only to Russia. "Russia does not abdicate its share of responsibility for the processes in the region, and does everything within its capabilities to prevent tension," he noted, adding that Russia has the right to respond to unfair accusations.
The ambassador also considered it incorrect to blame only Armenia for everything. He stressed that the Russian position has never been formulated in this way. However, he continued, when controversial accusations, statements and criticism are heard, Moscow has the right to react at the official level.
When asked whether he sees anti-Russian sentiments in Armenia, the ambassador noted that this question is a "low blow." He recalled that he has been here with his family for more than 5 years and has warm connections with many people. "Naturally, I don't see anti-Russian sentiments here. And no one accused Armenia of generating anti-Russian sentiments," he said, adding that naturally, there are many forces that are trying to generate such rumors and create the ground for various kinds of provocations.
