ArmInfo. Armenia has repeatedly stated its determination to conduct negotiations with Azerbaijan in good faith and constructively, the final result of which will be the establishment of relations and peace in the region. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart on Wednesday in Yerevan, answering the question whether the region will become an eyewitness to peace.
"We have repeatedly confirmed our commitment to this process, and to the establishment of long-term peace in the region in general," he said, recalling that Armenia worked with Azerbaijan in several directions in several stages, including on a peace treaty.
He also said that Armenia recently received a response from Azerbaijan to the sixth package of proposals, will study it and respond in the proper form.
"Of course, there are statements about the existing real window of opportunity for bringing peace negotiations to their logical conclusion. I certainly have to agree with these statements. We do have the opportunity to establish peace, despite many obstacles and difficulties, despite the forced deportation of the Armenian population of Nagorno- Karabakh, aggressive rhetoric and words of hatred. We really see this chance," Mirzoyan continued, adding that he, as a representative of the Armenian government, for his part is doing everything possible to bring this process to its logical conclusion. At the same time, he noted with regret that no state in the world is capable of concluding a peace treaty unilaterally. Mirzoyan added that the constructiveness of Armenia should be met with a similar approach from Azerbaijan. "Yes, there is such a possibility, and it depends not only on the constructive involvement of the Armenian side, but also the Azerbaijani side. And we hope that Azerbaijan will show this constructiveness.
We also see positive signs, such as the agreements reached during the latest contacts, when detainees and prisoners of war were exchanged, and Armenia supported Azerbaijan's candidacy to host COP29 (Climate Conference). But, on the other hand, we also see negative sigs. I mean periodically aggressive statements from Azerbaijan, words of hatred, refusal to meet, however, I hope that constructivism will prevail," Mirzoyan said.
He also confirmed Yerevan's commitment to delimiting and demarcating the border with Azerbaijan according to the latest maps of the USSR General Staff. According to him, it is extremely important for Armenia to fix the mention of maps in the peace treaty in order to make the further delimitation process more predictable. "We do not have the final text of the peace treaty, but we are now discussing the possibility of ensuring predictability of delimitation and demarcation," the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry summed up.
