ArmInfo. The Republic of Armenia will be guided exclusively by its own interests. Speaker of the RA Parliament Alen Simonyan commented on the visit of the head of the government of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to St. Petersburg to participate in the EAEU meeting and the CIS summit.
In response to journalists' remark about whether Pashinyan's visit to St. Petersburg is a step back from the European course, Simonyan noted that Armenia has never officially declared that it is making a U-turn towards the West.
"Armenia and Russia are in the same economic union, and our country's economy is experiencing significant growth. And we cannot miss the opportunity to chair our economic belt. This is necessary for the Republic of Armenia," he explained.
At the same time, Simonyan recalled that he recently refused to participate in the CSTO summit, since there is still serious dissatisfaction with the work of the Organization.
"Please do not rush to conclusions about steps forward/backward. The Republic of Armenia will continue to pursue its interests. And if it is in our interest to visit St. Petersburg, we will go there, and if not, then we will not go, as it already happened this year," he said.
