ArmInfo. In any case, the Shushi Carpet Museum is a private museum, and the state as such cannot open a private museum, but we are open to cooperation. RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Alfred Kocharyan mentioned this during a meeting with journalists on December 25, answering the question regarding the statement of Vardan Astsatryan, director of the Shushi carpet museum, about the need for a separate building to exhibit carpets in the museum.
Kocharyan assured that the department has repeatedly proposed various formats of cooperation with the museum, and today it is also open to discuss constructive initiatives on the part of the museum's management.
Shushi carpets were saved from the 44-day Artsakh war in 2020 and were taken to Armenia, but so far such a significant cultural heritage has not found a roof in our country. The rugs are displayed from time to time and then stored.
Speaking about the cultural heritage, Alfred Kocharyan noted that joint efforts are being made with the private sector and the scientific community to inventory the destroyed cultural and historical monuments of Artsakh, which today are in the territories controlled by Azerbaijan after another military aggression.
In addition, the issue of the Armenian cultural heritage, according to him, is being raised by the department at all possible international platforms in order to put pressure on Azerbaijan in the context of preserving the spiritual, historical and cultural monuments of Artsakh.
