ArmInfo. The allegations that Russia has tried and is trying to change the current government of Armenia and supports the opposition are a bluff. The reality is exactly the opposite, says political scientist Stepan Danielyan.
In this regard, Danielyan proposed to figure out why things are the way they are. "When the West expanded towards our large region, Russia and Turkey strengthened their relations. This was the case in the times of Nicholas 1, Lenin and Kemal, and the same is true now.
The reason is simple, it is beneficial for Russia to have a good or bad Turkey as a neighbor than the West, which subjugates Turkey, which will also control the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles. Turkey is a buffer for Russia between itself and the West," the expert is convinced.
According to him, Turkiye is also pursuing a traditional policy. He drew attention to the fact that when Russia became stronger and began to pose a threat to it, it strengthened relations with the West, and when the West becomes stronger and Russia weakens, Moscow strengthens its rear against the West.
"When the West tried to overthrow Erdogan, relations between Turkey and Russia became closer. Now we are at this stage. During periods of rapprochement between Russia and Turkey, Armenia always becomes a victim. And for this, there must be an appropriate government in Armenia that will justify Russia's policies and will acceptable for Turkey.
Russia does not need a clearly pro-Russian government now, because it will have to change its policy towards Armenia, and it is not ready for this now. But Turkey does not need a government that pursues national interests in Armenia," Danielyan is sure.
The expert believes that the current authorities in Armenia are ideal for both Turkey and Russia. "It's another matter if the Turkish government suddenly changes or relations between Russia and the West undergo changes. In this case, the situation may change in Armenia and throughout the region. But this does not mean that we ourselves cannot change the situation within the country, and for this we We must have an adequate and politically mature political movement," the political scientist concluded.
